The Benefits of a Sincere Apology

A simple apology can resolve a conflict. But beyond that, an apology can impact a person's mental and physical state. A clinical psychologist from Morris Psychological Group in Parsippany in New Jersey, Daniel Watter, PhD, says that apologising can have a positive and negative impact.

An insincere apology is laden with negative energy, which can cause depression and anxiety. Those are associated with heart disease, muscle pain, and even ulcers.

Watter also says that people with build-up anger have a higher risk of suffering from eating disorder, such as bulimia or overeating. Unresolved anger may also lead to a higher risk of traffic accident. In general, anger renders brain unable to think straight.

Meanwhile, when a person is able to let go and apologise sincerely, the outcome will be positive. As cited from Everyday Health, a clinical psychologist and relationship expert in Los Angeles, Jeanette Raymond, PhD states that letting go and a sincere apology can balance out hormones, decrease stress level, and elevate energy.
